This bag is made with a fabric called Bogolan. It’s a handmade cotton fabric traditionally dyed with fermented mud. It is native of Mali, West Africa, where it has an important traditional role. Women are wrapped in bogolan during initiation into adulthood and after childbirth. Warriors dress up in bogolan for camouflage purposes.
